Whaleboy doesn't understand how important Vietnam is to Americans on both sides. The Left has invested a substantial portion of its credibility on having been "right" about Vietnam.

Many of us here [on 'Poly] either were in Vietnam or have close relatives who were in Vietnam. My uncle served as quartermaster on a carrier in the Gulf of Tonkin (Kitty Hawk IIRC).

Kerry is a lying sack of shyte for what he did as spokesman for VVAW. Many feel that it effectively disqualifies him for the office of President. In many states Kerry wouldn't have been elected to statewide office, mush less Congress or Senate.

Many want to leverage this whole issue because, as the article posted a page or two earlier says, the "official" history has been defined by the Left and it needs to be set straight.

Molly, in the US, people have the constitutional right to slander and libel politicians, except under very limited circumstances. Libel here is privileged.

But, as it stands, the only thing that was scuttled was the agreement of all parties to open peace talks prior to the election. This prevented Johnson from rigging the election of Humphrey as he planned. It did not affect the ultimate peace talks as the NV "offer" was for a US surrender -- that is, unless you would believe that Johnson would have accepted the offer? Is that your contention?
