must be the title. I admit this one took me by surprise too. I was fairly apathetic above. I figured it would be another catergory 2 snoozer. Category 1 and 2 storms really don't do ****.

But this one got strong quick.

but I still get irratated watching the news. I am currently watching NBC nightly news. This old lady was the only one in her mobile home who stayed. She said next time she would leave and not stay. So why did she stay this time! . Such ignorance. This is another reason I tend to be apathetic. These ****ing people know they should leave, yet they stay.

And why so many mobile homes/trailers/manufactured homes? True, I live in a mobile home, but there isn't any bad weather where I live. We have perfect weather. Although I am impressed that a good number of them survived unscathed from what I've seen, yet one right next to it is completely destroyed. Is it better construction, or just the randomness of the winds?

Well..glad to be alive and glad to be back!!

Let me tell you what, I have never been through so many "close calls" in a short time!

I live just south of Jacksonville along U S Highway 17 we had multiple Tornadoes & Water Spouts today! Over my house i watched clouds swirl, not a tornado yet but several hit within 3 miles of me..

We were without power only 8 hours so not so bad..

I am so glad God chose to not allow anything bad to happen here...

Many homes and business were hit locally..
I have never seen this many Tornados..

It was very errie (ok please help grammar police!!)

I have been though so many storms but I have to say watching the local news prior to losing power from like 12:10-almost 2 one after another rotation sprang up..I know it may sound corny..but it was like a scene out of the movie Twister..

ESPECIALLY when they are making landfall all around



Ok..I am glad that as few lost their lives as did and a shame it is...

I don't know what to hope about Earl. Obviously we in the U.S. are better prepared to deal with these storms, but I don't want to wish it on anyone.

OMFG, one of the barier islands was cut in two by the hurricane. There are now North and South Captiva Islands.

The same thing happened on North Topsail Beach (Topsail Island) with Fran..3 swaths and we had Benihana!!

After a couple weeks the roads were repaired and inlets closed..for now...

Having been to Honduras on Mission Trips for my Lord twice, I can say in the US we are not necessarily better to handle just we have more communication to send information for the public and also we have better infrastructure to "respond" to the aftermath..

Time will tell..I saw where Mitch had gone in Honduras and it was truly sad..what it did to the homes built into the hills where people didnt even have the minimum necessities of life...

I saw where the Swiss Govt built several bridges back that Mitch took out...

Devestation is only word that comes to mind

You know, we just added hundreds of thousands of unemployed to our state. This is not gonna make finding a job any easier. Cross your fingers though, I have an interview on Monday.

Our storms are nothing like hurricanes back east. But 2 people died in storms last night in death valley. Hardly anyone dies from flooding in Las Vegas anymore because of our flood control projects (which are an ongoing process for at least the next 30 years).

Listening to a lot of people explaining why they stayed just confirms in my mind lots of folks are dumbasses. You live in Florida god knows how long, have been told forever that these storms can turn unpredictably, and yet everyone who stayed has the same dumbass excuse "I didn't think the storm was gonna come this way. It was only a catagory 1 storm." Dumb****s.

I'm on the whole other side of the state and I was having a coniption because I thought I was gonna have to deal with a Cat 1 storm.

I've spent a fair amount of vacation time on Sanibel and Captiva, my aunt and uncle had a little place there for a number of years. We were planning on going back next year.

I think Tom Selleck used to have a place on Captiva...
