Recently, in the English Rugby League (as opposed to the Rugby Union league ), all of the teams added nicknames to their real names. So the team that is closest to where I work (and for whom I couldn't give any more of a toss than any of the other teams in this rubbish sport) used to be called Wakefield Trinity. Now, thanks to the wonders of making the game more appealing to God knows whom, they are called the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats. Not Wakefield Wildcats, which would have been far more sensible, but the whole damned lot.

That's the "game" with all the good bits of Rugby taken out.

Bah, I prefer League to Union... maybe because League is somewhat similar to American football in having a certain number of tries to get where you are going. Much more fun to watch than a ruck or maul after every single tackle in Union.

I'm not talking about watching it - I'm talking about playing it.

League rules are like, "Don't him him! You might hurt him!"

Union rules are more like "Kick the living sh1t out of him, and anyone else (so long as you are onside)."

Whose talking about playing anything? This thread is about watching... unless you happen to be an EPL player in disguise .

This is going totally off topic, but hell.

League requires being big, strong, quick and skilful, whereas Union requires being big, strong and for the players in some positions to be skilful.

Besides, Aussie rules kicks ass in the non-armoured field-based ruck department.

Aussie Rules is definetly interesting. It adds more 'foot' to Rugby. Also that dribbling every 15 yards of running is kinda fun as well.

                          • Assuming he still merits a place in the team by then. After a few years playing for Real Madrid and being horribly exposed defensively by his lazy-ass showboating team-mates he might not look so good.

                            • He'll still be good enough to captain the French. His loss to Arsenal will be much felt.

No big deal to me. I remember when he was at Juventus, passing the ball if he was ever in danger of being under even slight pressure and dropping Davids in the **** every time. He does one flick (that a non-leaguer could do) and the commentators go insane. We wouldnt have him here, far too lazy for English football. No doubt all the pundits will drone on about him too, what a great loss to international football etc.

Scoring the penalty versus us after being sick seconds earlier is the only world class thing ive seen him do.
