Because his books aren't science fiction.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

How would YOU classify the WorldWar series, or A World of Difference?

      Or Guns of the South?

Fantasy? No magic used anywhere in those series/books.
Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

        In any case, he's craptastic.

          I don't need a T-sip lecturing me on "Craptastic".

Historical fantasy. Fantasy doesn't need to have magic.

Agreed. After all, craptastic is defined as "Aggie."

Bull-hockey. It's "Alternate History", which can be a subgenre of Sci-fi.

Incidently, it was agreed to be a subgenre of Sci-fi on this very board in the "sci-fi book club" threads.

Hey, it isn't my fault A&M didn't listen to me when I recommended the starting lineup get shot if they didn't win the Texas/Texas A&M game....

I never agreed. I always thought it sucks.

Boohoo, obviously a good chunk of the active sci-fi geeks on this board agreed, or it would have never made a topic-o-da-month.

Even were I to accept your definition, which I don't, her certainly doesn't rate in the top ten SF authors of all time, let alone the top 3.

Who are your favorite three science fiction authors?

Wew! For a moment I thought we were debating the best sci-fi authors for EVERYONE.

Alternate History is a form of Speculative Fiction just like Fantasy and SciFi -- which are often though not always filed jointly in bookstores. I'd say it's closer to SciFi because, [whenever] it breaks the laws of physics, it does it in SciFi ways.

                            And, yes, Turtledove does suck.

Turtledove happens to be one of the worse Sci-Fi Fantasy authors that anyone has ever recommended to me
