The bottom line is that you guys are on easy street, making more money than your classmates, getting experience that most of your classmates do not, and doing easy work that is directly related to your field of interest.

I'll ask again: where are you getting your information from?

You have no idea what work I did, you have no idea how I earned my position, and yet you somehow consider yourself to be an expert on the job that I held for 18 months. How many years were you an RA? How many RA's have you known in real life? Where are you getting your information from?

        Cut the bull**** already.

Ted, now you're just being an ass about something that you're clueless on. It's embarrassing, so why not cut it out?

Since when are RA's grad students? Most of the ones I know aren't.

              Nah not really.

My entire family has done it, along with many of my closest friends.

So cut the BS guys, count your blessings and stop complaining or find another damn job. There is nothing special about you primadonnas.

Only grad students and postdocs held research assistantships at my university. There were a few undergrads who would use a professor's lab facilities for an honors thesis, but they weren't paid for their efforts.

Then why are you so clueless about what RA's do and how they get their positions? My bull**** meter is going haywire after your "these positions are AWARDED" remark.

I'll be sure to relay your heartfelt asshollery to the RA's I knew who lost their tuition waivers and/or their student visas because of a professor's whims. They should count themselves lucky that some clueless schmuck on the internet doesn't give a damn about them. Or something.

In my school, there are some undergrad RA's (I'm one), but our bosses expect much less out of us then they do from grad students.

I'm sure it went down just the way you described it. So that must mean that most professors out there are out to recruit immigrants so they can screw them over.

Yet you've not had any experience with it and you still seem fit to sit and pontificate to people who have gone through it or are currently going through it what it's all about.

Holy hell, you're being a complete fool.
