I say we revive the Kalmar Union in stages. First we combine the national soccer teams of Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, and Finland then we sit back and watch them take over the world.

That's harsh, Ollie. I once got stopped by a policeman for walking down the street with an axe I had just picked up in the bargain bin at a hardware store. He said I'd better go back to the store and get a bag for it, because I might freak people out. Then he left.

Oerdin, I think you can scrap the latter three teams. Or at least the latter two. They're crap (unfortunately)

That's what we've been trying to tell them since 1387! But they won't listen, so we'll just have to teach them a lesson tonight, then maybe we can talk.

We have a conspiracy with Bulgaria that they should beat Italy tonight.

If it weren't for the rain and the lack of time and money, I'd take the train to Copenhagen tonight. Big party at RÃ¥dhuspladsen.

Oh yeah, good point. I should probably go there, the weather being lovely or at least semi-lovely in Copenhagen today.

But I also seem to recall an instance in the 80's in which Holland in the last game of the qualifying stage had to defeat Malta, was it (?), by at least 11 goals. And sure enough, final result was a convenient 12-1, which was unheard of, even in those days.

It could be true (I don't have any solid records on this), but I'm quite sure it was Spain (or possibly even Italy) that scored the 12-1, which caused Holland to fail qualification...

No reason to whine though, since Holland at that time scored a measely 2-0 victory over Malta, and it was that piss-poor result that caused their 'defeat'. Had they scored a decent 6-0 like the rest, then a 18-1 game would have really strirred things up.

                    Spain - Malta: 12-1

Oh, and to a 2-2 draw between Denmark and Sweden (they'll be fools not to...)

Denmark wins easily tonight. No question about it. Sweden didn't impress me that much vs Italy tbh

You're right germanos, it was Spain. And Holland didn't qualify because of it. That's what happens when an old fart tries to dig up trivia just from memory. Sometimes it's like locating a non-existant black cat in a dark room.

My apologies to you and Holland for the unfounded accusations.

We actually won 5-0 against Malta, so that was a decent score. And we had won our away match against Malta 0-6. So we got good results against Malta in that qualifying tournament.
