Remember -- I was making that argument as if to hypothetically agree with you.

And all this talk about changing sexual orientation assumes the mindset that being gay in of itself is horribly wrong -- which it isn't.

      • It's simple -- two mutually consenting adults who are in a committed, monogamous relationship is a fundamental, human desire regardless of sexual orientation.

And this fundamental, human desire is not wrong because committed, monogamous relationships can contribute to the stability of society and reinforce common values.

        • Two mutually consenting adults of opposite sex who are in a committed, monogamous relationship is a fundamental, human desire regardless of sexual orientation.

You're still not proving anything. Sex, love is primarily there for reproduction - therefore homosexuality is a bastardisation of that process.

I understand the frustration, but you're seeing homophobic ghosts that aren't really there. I have no such mindset.

Oh, and if the discussion hasn't turned too un-P.C by now, I'm curious as to how you'd know monogamy is a 'fundamental human desire'.

              • Because we are social animals and one of the ways humans seek each other out is to form a more intimate relationship with someone else than the type we have with platonic friends.

I think you'll find a lot of people have sex for the fun of it, not just procreation...you think people have sex just because they want a baby? You've got a lot to learn.

The issue is on 'two mutually consenting adults'...no qualifiers. It is NO business of anyone else what they do.

So two elderly straight people should not be allowed to remarry because they would be unable to reproduce?

A woman and a man should not marry one another if the woman is unable to reproduce?

A woman and a man should not marry if they plan to have no children even if they are capable of doing so?

This obsessive cult with reducing human relationships to the purpose of reproduction (since reproduction can occur without establishing a relationship) does not make sense to me.

                    • What, am I not "enlightened" or "intellectual" enough for this thread?
Evidently that is secondary to you being a ****.

At least others like Monk can argue on this issue of sexual orientation without blatantly seeking to offend.

Can't say that about you though.

                      Get a thicker skin ffs.
                      Get a better argument ffs

                      Prove it
The proposition that it is "wrong" requires arguments to show that it is not neutral, so in other words, the burden of proof is on you to prove that "the mindset of being gay is horribly wrong".

You're still not proving anything. Sex, love is primarily there for reproduction - therefore homosexuality is a bastardisation of that process.
That argument holds about as much water as a sieve when one deals with higher mammals, who use often use sex to cement their relationships. Furthermore, the act of bearing children to the individual, as well as sex and said relationships is there (for that individual) is there to bring happiness to the individuals in question, which it does in homosexual relationships to the same degree as heterosexual relationships.

MrFun, the obsessive cult is generally composed of people who seem to fear anal sex, the cause of that fear can be the subject of much enjoyable speculation, PA, I'm looking in your direction

"The people" have no say in amending the Constitution. The process is set up that way.

But what exactly is being dictated? One state allows gay marriage, per it's prerogative as a sovereign state. 38 states explicitly forbid gay marriage, and 11 states don't allow it, but don't expressly forbid it either. So how is "the minority" doing anything to "the majority?"

Given that there has only been one act of "superlegislation" in the 217 year history of the Constitution, why should there now be another? Especially when it looks absolutely absurd to read the 21st amendment's repeal of the 18th amendment.

Why is unnatural necessarily bad? People who would not ordinarily be able to conceive children of their own now have that option if they so desire.
