  • Brad Richards gets the Conn Smythe. PEI must be rocking tonight -- only place in Canada that wasn't rooting for the Flames .

EDIT: This has really gotta sting for Ottawa Senators fans. They & the Lightning came into the league in the same year, and despite supposedly being "on the brink" for 2-3 years now, they've just been surpassed by their expansion cousins.

      Well, that is good news.

      BUT

Tampa Bay? Tampa ****ing Bay? The Stanley Cup is won by a team based in ****ing Florida?!

Maybe the NHL does need to take some time off.

If anyone can give me a good reason not to beat my own head in with my hockey stick, fire away.

      • ^ One reason and one alone: Dave Andreychuk. How can you beat your head in at watching a guy who's toiled in the league for 22 years finally get his Cup?

        • Because it is Tampa Bay.

          Tampa Bay! Hockey!

Have we entered an alternate universe or something?

          • And the joy seeped out of Mudville.

Congrats to Tampa, they did have the talent. What a great, young team. Odds are this will not be the last.

            • ^ Hey, they've been here since 92-93. You wanna rage about it now, go ahead -- you can't blame Bettman for this one, though, it was Ziegler who awarded those franchises.

There are actually more Canadian players on the Lightning roster than the Flames roster, even.

              • Congrats Lightning!

Flames gave a good effort, but the better team definitely won tonight.

As has been said already: how can one not be happy for guys like Andreychuk, Lecavalier, Richards, and especially St. Louis? The little guy that could... It was great seeing him hoist the cup.

Even the role-players on Tampa proved, at least to me, that they had the chops to contribute to a win. They weren't being carried by the big guns; guys like Cibak, Clymer, and Dingman contributed game in, game out.

                So: Congrats.

                • Congrats to Tampa.

Calgary showed up for the last 10 minutes - not good enough. It's a bloody shame too because they totally outplayed Tampa for so much of the series. My heart ached game after game when 'Bulin left all those rebounds...and their was hardly ever a Flame on the doorstep to clean up the garbage.

Old guy wins - okay nice, but I don't really care. Richards/St. Louis/Fedotenko were more deserving.

I disagree with the thought that there is more in store for this team. Winning so young does strange things - 50% of them will be ruined by this and never get better or in fact decline.

Fedotenko, yes. Bashed up to high hell, but basically is The Show, offensively, in game 7.

                        • The series was over in game 6.

Tampa outplayed Calgary this game, but it should have never happened. The NHL needs to invest in transponders and RFIDs or something. It's ****ing cheap, and totally fair.

Oh well. There's always next year the year after next.

That said, I'm pleased with the Flames this year. Bottom of the division to the Stanley Cup Finals, they made us proud.

                              I was waiting for that.

I said to my wife as soon as the game ended, "Now they'll be sore about the non-goal."
