BTW Dan, regarding Germany. IIRC unemployment according to (comparable) ILO standards is about 7% in western Germany (give or take a couple of tenths) while it's twice as much in eastern Germany. So I wonder how tight labour laws really are. They don't seem to be so for a developed region, yet they do for a developing one.
