That's what I was thinking Diss... Perhapse to ease ppl into gay marriage we can first allow hot lezbians to marry for a period of time... Or, require that they video tape their honeymoon and release it on video! Piggy-back the rest of the gays in with the that contingency.

"I have history on my side"...dumbass...I just love how some fundie neocons want to take us back to the days of Puritan Europe.

I just saw this idiot black pastor on CNN who said that calling this battle a "civil rights battle" is insulting to African-Americans, because he believes that he can't change the color of his skin and that gays can stop being gay ("I want you to remember this").

Now, ignoring that last remark, I'd like to ask him if he would change his skin color if he had a choice.

BTW, why has no one seen fit to answer what I had hoped was a simple, non-confrontational question?

                Cause they can't.

is there any legal junkie on here who will give an answer for DD?

Sure. He's 100% correct . Is that what you wanted, Funboy? Massachusettes can determine to only give marriage licenses to people whose home state considers the marriages to be valid.

Perhaps. However, I'd prefer something other than judicial fiat.

P-town is probably going nuts over this. Come to think of it, this might make P-town (as well as the South End and parts of the Back Bay) THE gay place to be in the country.

Anyways, its good news and about time. This makes us one of four countries where gays can legally marry in the world... now we finally have some moral highground.

The law is objectively neutral and relates only to residency. In any event, the Constitutution would seem to mandate the same result - i.e. the Full Faith and Credit Clause. Non-residents of a state are still bound by the laws of the state in which they reside.

If you have an issue with it, take it up with the states which have statutory prohibitions on same-sex marriages.

Segregation laws were clearly not objective on their face, and (b) clearly violated the 14th Amendment. There is no Federal or Constitutionally recognized right to marriage. There are such rights with respect to freedom of association, access to public facilities, etc.

If they want to do so, they are free to do so, although there's a bit of inconvenience in terms of arbitrarily changing sovereignty over territory - that's something that involves both international and national recognition. Hence the many places on the map with disputed territorial limits, economic zone limits, etc. Different parties have different interpretations of the status of the territory in question.
