    European Union -1st of May, Uniting even more people

    European Union bigger than ever. Tomorrow we will be joined by:
    10 new countries
    74 million people
    Bringing the total number of countries in the EU to 25, with growing population of 455 million.

    Also 444bn euro of extra GDP strenghtening our position as the worlds second largest economy with 9613 billion euro GDP totaling over 18 %(USA 21.3%) of worlds gross domestic product. For more info check this out http://europa.eu.int/eday_en.htm

    Just outside my office, on Gedimino Prospektas, there's a tent with dishes from every EU and tomorrow-EU country (funny enough, Turkey's there as well... perhaps someone likes kebabs too much?). I ate a Polish "Fliaki" soup, a Viennese Snitzel, Italian icecream. Loads of other good stuff to eat later at night. And 1 l jugs of beer in the German section. Wooohoo!!!

            It's the referendum on the EU constitution I'm thinking of.

                          It is exciting.

                          What a vigorous institution the Union is.

                          Great map, by the way, laurentius.

                          The bureaucracy was hideously hard to work with as it was. So what do we do - make it even more impossibly with all these new members.

                          But to hell with such old maidish fears. It is great all these people wanted to join and great that it has been so agreed.

                          Before the Great War Poland and Czeckoslovakia had vibrant economies. I can see no reason why that cannot be so again.

                          Welcome fellow Euros!! An ever closer Union may it be!!
