gamenaught: So, the case for nuclear war is to prevent nuclear war?

One nuclear launch will already be devestating enough to be a reminder to other nations: "don't use it." (Well, knowing humans...but we can hope.)

          JOKE TIME
Fez is diagnosed with terminal communitis. His doctor says he has but a year to live.

Suddenly, Fez renounces his far-right ways. He starts studying the works of Marx, and the lives of great Soviet leaders such as Lenin and Brezhnev. He attends workers' rallies and becomes a member of the Communist Party.

Finally, on his deathbed, his partner asks: "Why did you become a Red before you died, Giancarlo?"

A smile lights Fez's face for a second. As he breathes his last breath, Fez says "One...less...commie."

By acknowledging a deity, Tass has turned his back on socialism.

            And the people rejoiced.

I see no difference in the magnitude of evilness between the Nazis and Communists. Both killed tens of millions.

Actually, yes. Mutually assured destruction (MAD) serves as a deterrent. That is why the US Strategic Air Command motto was "Peace is our Profession."

So people are allowed Waffen SS avatars on Apolyton?

So just in case some people forget: the glory of the Waffen SS

Hum, wasn't Waffen SS the war-fighting part of the organisation? As opposed to killing defenceles civilians part? Propably some of the latter too, well, the Totenkompfs deffinately.

                        Yup, I thought so:

                        Waffen SS

Par example, the Finns fighting in Waffen-SS weren't there for political reasons (well, some were, propably), but to fight against the Soviet Union.

Also, you can't really call anyone a nazi after WWII, since the NSDAP doesn't exist anymore. Call them... idiots.
I've allways wanted to play "Russ Meyer's Civilization"

I wasn't referring to MAD, I was referring to a counterstrike.

If the sovs got wind that there was a nonzero probability of US actually NOT responding to a major nuking, they would have been more willing to take their chances.

Credibility of deterrence matters, and no one even discussed the possibility of NOT responding, as that could have been interpreted by the other side as becoming part of policy.

                                Crazy, I know.
