        I meant from 1996-2000.

And considering that national sentiment was running against both PP's unethical, to say the least, handling of the crisis this weekend, that it is a victory for the Spanish people.

And at least you can concede that it's a good thing that Anna Palacio isn't in government anymore

            J/K

Timex, still I think the PP getting voted out was really unfair on behalf of the people. I will recognize these results and I hope for the sake of my country that the government does not backtrack on any of the reforms or we'll be really screwed.

The statement issued with the attack said it was in retalion for Spain's support of the United States in Iraq (among other things); a few days later, the party that was most against the war (among other things) is elected.

It dosen't take much to conclude that the implied demand was met.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Precisely. But too many conservatives here believe the Spaniards voted PSOE out of cowardice

I just hope Al Qaeda does not think the weakness of the SPanish people is indicative of Europe as a whole. otherwise we'll be seeing plenty more killings in advance of elections where al Qaeda thinks the populace would cave in o their demands.

It is though, don't you think? Maybe Britain and some of the Eastern European states still have some testes left, but the majority of the Continent seems like a collection of pussies who would rather hope that Al Qaeda forgets about them than actually stand up and fight.

It's good that Aznar has gone buying strawsberries because now Spain has solidly returned to Europe, where smart people do smart things and keep their people safe.

BTW Poland is seriously scared and has begged Spain not to withdraw its troops. If Poland is smart (I hope it is) she will do the same now.

Nah, if Poland is smart, it will demand a transfer of authority to the UN, so that many other foreign troops can come, and so that it can reduce its participation.

Good article from the Washington Post.

Seems that, despite claims here to the contrary, the defeat of the Partido Popular had as much to do with anti-American sentiment and anger over being attacked because of Spanish involvement in Iraq as it did with the "lies" of the government after the event.

edit: Good editorial on the subject, as well. I the Washington Post.
