What a weird experience for these boys.

And what weird behaviour to abduct them like that.

I wonder whether those responsible considered compensating them when they got around to releasing them?

    Seemingly not.

Because releasing terrorists is a laudable goal?

Judging by what is said about these boys the notion that anyone locked up in Guantanamo is a terrorist seems a bit remote.

Huh? You mean you want me to find a romance for my brother, or do you want me to hook you up with one of my niece's?

I can't do it. I and my brothers are persona non grata at my brother's ex- wife's place.

That they are has not been proved yet. Even if some aren't (likely, given that they held a 12-year old), it's possible they won't release them because of what they've seen.

Hinduism is a pretty good religion in that, at its best, it creates a space where different religious ideas can blend and be assimilated. Whereas Christianity and Islam insist on conversion and being absolute over all comers. Granted, the Hindu Nationalist Party represent the jackass wing of Hinduism. They are to India what the Southern Evangelicals are to the US - orthodox and parochial in outlook.

And every society has its caste system - rooted in the twin pulls of status hierarchy and nepotism that go with being primates. The Indian system has been becoming more fluid over the years, while the US's has been solidifying.

Solidification of a hierarchy is the surest sign of a fall. It is the upper class pulling up the ladder in order to defend their position against those who seek to achive higher status via merit. We in the US are doing our damnedest to turn the country into Brazil (a small over class and a vast under class). The barriers to entry into the overclass become so high that it is hopeless to even attempt to overcome them. Most of the Indian students I know are on the rise. Most of the American students I know are just trying to maintain the class status in which they grew up.

Well, Britain can project power a lot better than China...
Britain has neither enough power to project nor does it have the economy that China does.

In 2002, they were spending 2.3% on GDP.

Unless you live in India you're not going to see an average Indian because most of them would be lucky to make the price of an airline ticket to the US over a 5 year period of time. The Indian students you know are mostly the cream of a billion person crop. If you're living in the US though you're in a country where even an average person can go to college, so yes, many of them would be struggling.
