Star Trek has had some good moments: movies with Khan and The Borg Queen for instance. But the original three star wars( especially ESB) are classics..
"Perhaps a new spirit is rising among us. If it is, let us trace its movements and pray that our own inner being may be sensitive to its guidance, for we are deeply in need of a new way beyond the darkness that seems so close around us." --MLK Jr.
I think that the Star Trek movie with the Borgs was good, and some interesting points to make. Especially the scene were the female borg tries to seduce Data. Weird.
Still, as far as in depth Sci-Fi goes, I stick with B5

I admit I am partial to the Galactica movie but you must admit that it is better than STAR WARS. JAR JAR BINKS, those funny looking furry things, and exactly how does Anakin Skywalker get into the queen's panties that fast. I must have fell asleep. Anakin must have a way with words. "Hi, wanna play with my lightsaber? Let's get married?"

This revulsion towards the amusing Jar Jar Binks is something I never understood. What exactly is wrong with him? I mean basicly he is modelled on Goofy, the Disney character.
I think also there is a little bit of xenophibia in there, since he speaks something which could vaguely be interpreted as Rastafarian.
Also he likes bufoonery, and behaves in an anti-authoritain manner. This does not mix well with the marine barracks humour most well adapted and socialized people tend to identify themselves with. The latter is the kind of humour that takes Freuds conclusion that humour is subliminated sadistic impulses to its logical extreme. In short Jar Jar Binks is every Marine sergants nightmare.
His total inablity to understand technical details of course also infuriates the modern consumer. So in a sense he is a bit anti-capitalistic.
From a feminist point of view it is also easy to see why Jar Jar Binks would infuriate males, but I won't get into that.
jar jar binks is the nightmare of anyone with taste.

The original Star Trek characters were so much fun to watch. And let's face it...Kirk would have sex with anything!

What about Buck Rodgers? Now there was a Sci-Fi show!!! It was so good, they called Daffy Duck out of retirement to play in Duck Dodgers with Porky Pig in a cartoon remake. Look there if you want special effects and nuance in the plot line.
Original 3 Star Wars movies rocked. Entertaining sci-fi on an epic scale.
But yes, the new movies are craptacular, and threaten to undermine the mystique of the whole series.
However, Star Trek, which is also entertaining in its own right, has the putrid slop of several of the movies, plus most of The Next Generation, Voyager and Enterprise. So neither series has escaped unscathed.
I'll stick with SW episodes 4-6, with 1960s ST coming in second.

Star Wars was great until the prequels. I wonder why even the originals don't seem nearly as cool anymore?
This is only true of RotJ for me, as it proved that the Ewoks, rather than being momentary bad judgment, were actually a sign of things to come and the permanent derangement of Lucas.
