Thats like saying "if we have a war with China we are going to have a draft," or "If I put my hand on a hot stove it will get burned."

Of course if we drafted a million people you chances would be 1/8500. So a guess I should support the draft as it increases my chances of survival.

No, the criticism is that they chickened out of a war they publically supported and that today they want to tell others to go fight. Honest draft dodging doesn't hurt you, unless you're a Repug (then you have to have dishonestly dodged). It didn't hurt Clinton. It didn't hurt Quayle. Didn't even hurt Dubya. So many Americans disagreed with the war that avoid the war isn't a problem. It's being a liar or an hypocrite that hurts you.

Indymedia isn't inherently false. You just need additional sources to consider it serious, as they don't do any fact checking.

Besides, we're a long way away from needing a draft. Yes, recruitment is down, but the armed forces still have quite a few volunteers.

Reserve and Guard retention and recruitment is down also. Quite a bit too, from what I'm led to believe.

But they had quite a few extra that were being turned away- about 50,000/year for the army alone, I believe.

Now they're around the break even point. Further erosion could occur depending on what happens overseas in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Once again, this year we outprocessed/fired 400 aviation students alone. There are so many aplicants that we don't need to keep people who can't make the grades.

Ha. I bet there were a few idealists who genuinly disagreed with things in their heart and could not make themselves go to Vietnam. However, the majority were hippie cowards who wouldn't have fought in ANY war and used the anti-Vietnam ideology as a shield. Wouldn't lift a finger if Russian tanks were rolling down Pennsylvania Ave, that is if they could be bothered to stop looting for five minutes to notice.
