  • Russia plans nuclear wargame

Next week, Russia will conduct a simulated nuclear attack on the US as part of a large scale wargame.

I thought the Cold War was over?

    ------------
MOSCOW (AP) -- Russia's nuclear forces reportedly are preparing their largest maneuvers in two decades, an exercise involving the test-firing of missiles and flights by dozens of bombers in a massive simulation of an all-out nuclear war.

President Vladimir Putin is expected to personally oversee the maneuvers, which are apparently aimed at demonstrating the revival of the nation's military might and come ahead of Russian elections in March.

The business newspaper Kommersant said the exercise was set for mid-February and would closely resemble a 1982 Soviet exercise dubbed the "seven-hour nuclear war" that put the West on edge.
    ....
    -------------

'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"

Indeed, but hardly because of this.

Funny that you never hear about U.S. wargames. Oh, right, that's because we do it for real.

How are these essays simulating a "nuclear war with the US"? Are unarmed missiles supposed to land on American territory? Is the US quoted as a "simulated" target at all?

I'm against these essays, especially in an electoral context It just means Russians have been brainwashed to love seeing they can spill foreigner's blood

Actually, it's probalby more to pander to the hardliners who want to see the Soviet Union reconstituted and the military built up again.

And who else in the world would the Russian Strategic Forces go 'all out' against?

God save us, and let Him ensure that those antique systems are working properly. We really don't need any 'oops, there it goes.'

I'm not even a theist, really, but I'll take whatever assurances I can get against a revival of nuclear insanity.

China. Don't forget they were the most bitter enemies for decades, even more bitter than between US and USSR.
