  • Bush going to propose privatizing Social Security again tonight.

He wants people to be able to put their Social Security contributions in a private account. Does he realize how large the budget deficit would be if the federal govt wasn't using the surplus from the SS fund to pay for the tax cuts? If the Republicans were able to do this the budget deficit would definitely set records as a percent of GDP and the economy would surely be wrecked.

The only people who know how to manage an economy are socialists. Both neocons and neolibs smoke crack.

Glad you're concerned about the potential for people to lose their SS money, Kid.

It won't sail with the elderly. And they always vote. He's just trying to rally his base support.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

          More power to him.....

Screw the elderly, or better yet, throw 'em out of helicopters.

And have them eat dog food...

But I hope he actually has some backbone for once, and doesn't puss out like he normally does. Privatize it.

If it's privitized, the Feds will go bankrupt or have to pass massive tax increases to pay for the Social Security of those who've already paid in. Either way, it's a recipe for disaster.

                  Oh Horrors!

Just imagine if people could actually make some money off their social security payments?

                  This is a travesty!

This is the worst possible thing that could ever happen!

                  This is not socialism!

All people must be totally dependent on the government for a living, after all.

How many people here would've liked to have had their savings invested in Enron circa 2001?

If someone is in the stock market long term, diversified they make out much better than social security even with all the crashes and bubble bursts over the last 80 years.

Hell, you could put it in a money market, and make out far better than what the government is doing.

I would say most people don't want privatized SS as long as they're reasonably certain the gov't isn't just going to blow it.

Look at it this way, it will be more ammo against Bush in the next election.
