How can you artificialy split Austro Hungarian monarchy which was itself an artificial creation?

Croatia, home of nudist beaches, Diocletian's palace and Ragusa, which gave English the word argosy.

Here in Croatia many don't consider our country a "Balkan country". While people may concede that, by some definitions, Croatia is partially or wholly situated on the Balkan peninsula (there is no clear definition of what exactly are it's borders), most will describe the country as "partly south-central European, partly Mediterranean".

The reason for this is that Balkans is generally considered a backward region, not only economically, but even worse - socially and politically.
