  • Would the inability to forgive sins stop you from selling indulgences?

If you wanted to buy, say, Civ III Conquests, but were a bit short, and had someone convinced that an indulgence from you had value when is really didn't...

Would you sell the indulgence to get the game?

I have sold insurance before, so yes.

      Edit: I just understood.

No way. I'll never sell moral support, ever (unless It's a question of survival, but this is the only reason I can think of to do such an immoral thing)

I presume he's refering to what priests used to do, they would accept a donation from a parishioner so that the parishioner could commit a sin of indulgence (e.g gluttony or adultery) knowing in advance that it would be forgiven.

Thanks BC, it's the word "indulgence" in French too. I thought about it, but at first, I didn't compute that selling indulgences could ever be my doing
(And I still can't imagine it, see my edit above)

It's a stupid question really. Well, perhaps just untimely.

And how is that different from bribing Jesus?

You're paying to have your sins forgiven.

IF Jesus could be bribed (it's been tried, didn't go so well, or went really well depending on your pov) to forgive a sin, then it would be forgiven. Whereas if you sold an indulgence and got paid, the buyer gets ripped off, and you get the money. No forgiveness, just a lie, and CivIII Conquests...

If you want COnquests so badly, can't you simply make a paid blowjob to a random bloke in the red light district?
