That's Shanghai's "Tomorrow Square". A Marriott hotel occupies the upper stories. The building itself is odd-looking from some angles, but rather cool from others. Looks better at night when the "pearl" inside the "claw" is illuminated.

For skyscrapers, Shanghai has it all. From grand to horrific, retro to Jetsonian, interesting to just plain weird. Lots of weird. I bet Shanghai is the world leader in UFO-topped skyscrapers.
That's it! 934 feet tall with 55 stories. 3rd tallest in Shanghai.

    Here's another view:

Completed in 1931. For 41 years she held the title of world's tallest building until eclipsed by WTC.

Since 9/11 she once again stands supreme over the New York Cityscape.

In Portland Maine, where i was born and also the home of Longfellow's Statue, we had a building very similiar, in the bottom IIRC, was State Drug Store, complete with Soda Fountain.

I allways thought this was a nice lloking building, no not a "benchmark" for building just easy on the eyes!

        Thanks for the memories.

Where was this one from kind Sir?

...Of course, this design, although not yet built, would be my favorite!

Um..., the Flat Iron Building is one of NYC's most famous landmarks. Sits on the intersection of 23rd street and Broadway.

Next to the WTC, I never really thought about it, but the Flat iron has more appeal than things like empire state or chrysler.

Thanks to GePap, his photo of the Flat Iron in NYC, I went to the website www.greatbuildings.com

This is a pretty interesting website

I took a few moments to view and for real, many interesting and educational tidbits on the why's and when's.. of how great buildings came to be
That is for those of us whom dont know anything or have limited educational backgrounds..well darn I am pretty much the only moron here, because most people whom post here, from what I have read KNOW EVERYTHING..but on the chance that maybe someone may visit whom doesnt know everything please enjoy....
