Despite what political ramifications, I don't believe even the evil (j/k) French would cover up such a thing, nore could they in my opinion. It also counteracts their very supportive actions against terrorists, minus Iraq.

Thinking realpolitik, imagine the ramifications if it was discovered there was a cover up, at home and abroad. It just doesn't make sence in a cost benefir analysis.

AFAIK they havent retrieved the black box yet anyway they've only located it on the sea floor so the article appears to be bull**** anyway.

We do have mini subs that can go that deep right? Titanc was that ddep I think.

I would say this is a troll thread, I don't like the French due to certain present decisions but they are not abd people, they don't cover up terror attacks.

They'll get it, they just dont have anything available yet.

Yeah its a troll, but it doesnt mean there wont be political repercussions. Even without a failure on the part of French airsafety there will still be plenty for government opponents to spin (and vice versa).

I am curious, is the French media questioning the government's story on this at all?

I am not saying that the French gov. is lying per say(though Chirac may well be capable of that). Nobody has proof of what really happened, and the French anf Egyptian government may be automatically assuming the scenario that is most favorable to them, even if that scenario doesn't seem to likely given what we do know about the plane.

Not much. I've just scanned 3 newspapers, and:
Le Figaro (Chirac sycophants) emphasize on the reinforcements sent to the salvage team, and on the fact that the airliner was probably crap (of course that's the company's fault)

Le Monde (soft opposition) emphasizes on the mourning celerations, but writes largely about the Swiss report, opposing the government's version that the plane was all ok.

L'Humanité (hardline opposition) does quote aerial security people who say it is impossible to know already whether it is an accident or a terror attack. Obviouslythey opposethe fact that the government denied the possibility of a terrorattack before knowing anything.

Ah, the clowns from Corsica have been let loose again.

Must have run out of CND vessels to sink...

Mind you, they've got their work cut out to damage or replace data from one of the 2 recorders (voice and data) so I doubt they'll get away with it...

                  It didn't, actually.

It was a charter flight between two points in Egypt. Go read any of the reports about the crash.

(IIRC it was flying between a resort on the Red Sea and Cairo)

So actually the "story" is that French teams located(OMG!) the second flight recorder, the first one was found earlier, but none of them is retrieved yet. Both are in extreme depth, so it will take a while.

But maybe CNN is part of the whole conspiracy

Am I missing something? What Swiss airline has had recent regulatory troubles? (Please don't say SwissAir...I'm flying it on Sunday )

                          Timexwatch:
That's not it. The Egyptian company of this here accident was forbidden by Swiss regulations, but it was allowed to fly by the French.

I think Swissair is one of the most reliable companies out there. Now, they have had serious financial trouble a few years back, and I thought they had gone bankrupt. Maybe there have been cost cuts in the field of security, but I didn't hear of a higher number of losses.

SwissAir has collapsed. You'll be flying with the smaller airline that was born out of its (financial) ashes.

"French authorities said the plane had been scheduled to land at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris later in the day."

So it didnt originate in France, it was on its way there. One or the other was implied since the passengers were almost all French. Its probably a regular route from Paris to Egypt that is (obviously) used by a large number of French citizens, therefore, the French have responsibility.

Indeed. And the plane had been judged apt by the French authorities. In retrospect, we can't understand why, because the testimonies I've read (even in the sycophant newspaper) were very accusatory.
