  • LSU v USC

    Hmm...tough call... (2) LSU beat (1) Oklahoma 21-14 and
    (3) USC beat (4) Michigan 28-14.

LSU beat a tougher team and had to knock off Georgia to get in. But USC was dominating and led Michigan 28-7 only to give up a late, rather meaningless TD.

    So which is it?

    USC

btw Nick Saban... rumored to be head coaching candidate for the Monsters of the Midway...

I don't follow college sports, too corrupt... would Saban do good in Chitown? or would he suck like Spurrier?

I think Saban would be good. He has plenty of experience as an assistant at the pro level and he's a defense-first kind of coach, which is always a good thing. Might be hard to woo him away from LSU, though, now that he'll be making at least $2,300,001 a year.

It's close, but I'd take USC over LSU. Shame they can't play against each other next week.

Damn threadjackers, thx for expressing a relevant opinion Imran. I would have agreed with you Saturday but LSU has impressed me with 2 big wins over tough teams. LSU's only loss came at the hands of Florida (or was it Miami?) while it was Cal that knocked off USC, so I'll have to give the edge to LSU even though my heart is more with USC. My buddy back in high school (Eric Hipp) was USC's field goal kicker back in the very early 80's.

Is he related to I.M. Hipp?

Common sense and tradition. If the #1 team wins their game they stay #1.

If they both played the way they played in their bowl games, definitely LSU. USC played well but not great. Michigan played like barely Top 25 team. OU looked like they had a hangover.

Not that its the reason, but has anyone else noticed the extreme difference in the sync and play level of Oklahoma since Stoops accepted the job at Arizona? They were playing at a whole different level prior to their two bowl games.

I would pick USC... they looked like a much better team than either of the BCS teams.

While USC won the AP poll with 48 first place votes vs 17 for LSU... I found it REALLY interesting that 3 out of the 63 coaches in the Coaches Poll voted for USC as number one, even though by agreement with the BCS, they were all supposed to vote for the winner of the BCS Championship game

Nah, Eric didn't have an older brother of the right age as I recall. And he was a short, stocky guy so I doubt his family genes would have produced a RB. But the vote is close, 5-4 in favor of USC. At least the feelings of most people I discussed the matter with were right about which teams deserved to be in the championship. USC v LSU was that match-up...

Can't remember who said it, but I think the LSU coach said they need to add one game after the bowls are over - a real championship. That would satisfy both lobbies, the bowl advocates and the play off advocates. Seems reasonable, that would also create in essence two bowl games of extra significance.
