Well, I guess since cops are supposed to protect and serve, it's a good exercise.. do little experimenting and have first hand information about the situation.

I mean, they do put women cops to play as prossies in the streets and then catch the guys willing to pay.... so, why not put few guys to be as gay and then catch the ones that tries to attack them, if there is higher hate crime rate in some places, it could be tried out.

Well, IMO it shouldn't be the goal of police to help instigate crimes or misbehavior for the purpose of catching and punishing the subject. But there's a key difference between prostitution and harassment of non-heteros: homophobes don't tend to seek out homosexuals for the purpose of harassing them, whereas those soliciting prostitution are looking for prostitutes.

          Well, that's what I'm saying.

I don't mean that there aren't any. I mean those that are open. It's hard to be a closet black (unless you're Colin Powell).

It isn't illegal in Canada. Communicating in a public place for the purpose of buying or selling is. Many cities now license escort services, and some of them encourage 'owner operated' to cut down on exploitation. The object is to get it off the streets and out of the hands of pimps.

What's the big deal? it's just a short exercise. They get all kinds of training in this and that. I think it is a good exercise to let them know what it feels like.

I concur with this. You would think that Whyte Av. would be one of the more gay-friendly areas of the city, what with the whole cosmopolitan thing they have going on down there.

I'd hate to see what would happen if they did this exercise in... um... I just realised that I don't really know what area of my own city is regarded as "most conservative"...

Uh... I wouldn't reccommend that men walk hand in hand down by the Greyhound Station and the Edmonton Centre parkade, but then again, I wouldn't reccommend that anyone walk down there, if they can avoid it.
