I just helped out my brother-in-law by replacing his broken HD for him. I installed Windows 2000, but I don't know how to get more than 16 colors. I know I have to load the driver for the display adapter, but how do I do that if I don't know what the brand is? He has a "no-brand" computer. Device manager can't tell me anything about the video controller.

Boot Knoppix and run lspci? Get some random piece of hardware discovery software (from someplace like Tucows or whatever)? This is Shireroth, and Giant Squid will brutally murder me if I ever remove this link from my signature | In the end it won't be love that saves us, it will be mathematics | So many people have this concept of God the Avenger. Yep, I guess it's true then... I don't know how to do anything in a Windows environment anymore...This is Shireroth, and Giant Squid will brutally murder me if I ever remove this link from my signature | In the end it won't be love that saves us, it will be mathematics | So many people have this concept of God the Avenger. Most likely he's using one of those all-in-one mobos, which should come with a CD. Run that and install the video driver.(\__/) 07/07/1937 - Never forget

While there is a thread on the general topic,
How can I clear my Temporary Internet Files? There is 190MB in some 8 folders, and I could use every kb for my sorry hard drive. Selecting/dragging isn't working. Various "Being used by another program" messages alert me to this crisis.

Cali,
Running AIDA 32 might help you identify the display adapter.
jdd2007,
Start IE > from the top menu, select Tools > go to Internet options > then select Delete Files... (it's the middle option in the middle box on the first/main tab)
The option next to Delete Files... is Settings... and there you can change the size of your TIF folder. Set it to 10 MB or so.
