Why would any house need more than one bathroom?

well the Japanese toilets are fairly minimal. I believe it involves more squatting than sitting. I've also heard they are more efficient at evacuating certain areas. Not sure if that is true though.
But a hole in the ground would stink to high hell. You need water- and the water trap.

You know, this is quite possibly the first time in my life I've been tempted to call a thread retarded...This is Shireroth, and Giant Squid will brutally murder me if I ever remove this link from my signature | In the end it won't be love that saves us, it will be mathematics | So many people have this concept of God the Avenger. our house has 3 bathrooms. One bathroom is upstairs in my parents' bedroom. It has a bathtub and a separate shower stall, a toilet, and one sink. Then the 'kids' (me and my siblings) have a bathroom (also upstairs) with a full shower/bath, two sinks and a toilet. The last is on the first floor, and is just a toilet and sink (some refer to this as a 'powder room'.
Could we get by with one bathroom? Sure. Absolutely, in fact. But if you have the money to afford the convenience of more than one, and are willing to spend it on that convenience, you do. It's that simple.
Besides, there have been many times when more than one person needed to shower or use the facilities at once...so I'm happy for the fact that we have more than one"Chegitz, still angry about the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991?

The fact is, I grew up in a house with one bathroom, and it was a relatively upper-middle class area -- of course, I grew up in the seventies and early eighties, and the house in question was built in the 1880s.
That just goes to show that, until recently, lots of people had just the one bathroom. Of course, most famalies were larger, and homes smaller, so space was at a premium.
Nowadays, the opposite is true, which opens up room for larger and/or multiple baths. No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.
