Material Girl covers Clark with praise

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) --The Material Girl has stepped onto the political stage and endorsed Democratic presidential hopeful Wesley Clark.

"I think he has a good handle on foreign policy, I think he's good with people, and I think he has a heart and a consciousness," pop singer Madonna said. "He's interested in spirituality -- I mean, those things mean a lot to me."

The singer and children's book author met Clark a few weeks ago for over an hour. In an interview recorded last week with CNN's Denise Quan, Madonna said they discussed his becoming president.

The singer told Quan she had decided to support the former general and she felt Clark was a natural-born leader.

"As it stands right now, he's got my support," Madonna said.

The two were introduced by "Bowling for Columbine" filmmaker Michael Moore, who was an early supporter of Clark.

Madonna said she saw a few television interviews with Clark and wanted to meet with him herself.

"I think to be the general for as long as he's been, this is a man who knows how to deal with pressure and make decisions under pressure," Madonna said.

Clark, a retired Army general, was NATO's supreme commander during the 1999 air war against Yugoslavia.

He testified Monday and Tuesday in the war crimes trial of former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic, now held in The Hague. (Full story)

"We're delighted with the endorsement of a superstar for our four-star," said Matt Bennett, a Clark campaign spokesman.

Now I want Bush to be endorsed by Shania Twain. And then I want the election cancelled in favor of a legally-binding celebrity catfight. Is that too much to ask?

Too much? Not hardly. I'd like to see another addition to the card so to speak, Karl Rove vs Michael Moore.
    He's got the Midas touch.
But he touched it too much!

What the hell is Madonna thinking?

Celebrity endorsements are a huge liability nowadays.

Barbara Streisand singlehandledly destroyed the Democratic party in the last elections.

Has anyone else seen Clark on CNN a couple of days ago? He was being interviewed by Paula Zahn after Saddam's capture and she asked him (IIRC): "If you were president, Saddam Hussein would still be in power in Irak, wouldn't he?"

Man, i haven't seen anyone skating like that since the Olympics. He's not a real politician and it showed. He looked stunned for a moment and could not even come up with an evasive response.
            What?

CNN's IN-DEPTH POLITICAL ANALYSIS: Material Girl covers Clark with praise
...and the value of this information? Zero. This deed doesn't mean nor matter anything. Nothing else but petty, useless 'entertainment', that's what that news-'channel' is all about. This is just yet another proof that CNN sucks.

Clark is definately not fast on his feet.

It is information. This would be presidential candidate cannot answer a question as obvious as this one. That's something you'd expect from... Bush.

One way or another it does tell you about the man. Regardless of the fact that the question and the way it was asked are both "unworthy" of a true information channel, it does show the differences between what this man would have done and what Bush has done.

The thread is already drifting into real topics. Deal with it.

The subject was Clark's reaction to Saddam's capture. It is newsworthy. I do agree that the question was loaded but he is a politician (now) and should have expected it and been prepared.
