Dead body ignored by Osaka crowds

TOKYO, Japan (AP) -- Police in western Japan say a man's dead body was ignored by crowds on a busy downtown street corner for two months before a taxi driver finally alerted authorities.

The body, believed to be that of a homeless man in his late 60s or early 70s, was found in front of a popular department store in the crowded downtown area of Osaka, Japan's second-largest city.

A police official said it was partially decomposed by the time authorities collected it earlier this month.

According to the official, the deputy chief of the local police precinct, the corner is among the busiest in the city, with about a million people passing through the area each day.

The official, who requested anonymity, said the cause of death had not been determined, but foul play was not suspected.

He said the taxi driver reported finding the body on December 4.

Holy ****. I wonder where exactly this was at. I might have walked by the guy and didn't know it...

              Yuch.... that is some ignorance...

In helsinki there was one man (a loner) dead for six years in his apartment before the body was found.
              - The social insurance institution payed his rent and electricity for the six years
              - His relatives were not in contact with him
              - His neighbours hadn't seen him at all
              - The mail-man informed the authorities, that he could not get any mail into the apartment (there was already a ton of mail behind the door)
              - The police found a mummified corpse inside, when they forced the door open

... someone has been neglecting this person just a bit too much...
I'm not a complete idiot: some parts are still missing.

Kaurismaki should make a movie about this. Kafkaesquely hilarious, that is.

that's interesting. I actually asked in another forum if there are lots of Asian homeless. It seems to me there aren't very many asian homeless. But considering I have never been there I can't really say for sure. Cities don't make a point to show off their homeless- american cities don't do this, I don't expect asian cities to do so.

How bad is the homeless problem in Asia?

Where I live we have thousands of homeless.

hippies? I didn't think it was hip to be homeless. I had thought it was hip to have a nice car, a big house, cash falling out of your wallet because it cant fit, and I thought eating hot meals each night and sleeping in a warm bed was hip. I must have been wrong.

Then why wouldn't you think I live in San Fransisco? Does Oregon have lots of homeless? I have never been, so I don't know.

I live in Las Vegas. I may be dramatizing it by saying thousands. But I am certain we have over 1000 homeless. So by definition that means thousands right?
