Starchild = peac*ck (for its obvious beauty)
Provided it's a royal peac"ck in the kingdom of a wealthy Moghul court where I'd be served by a thousand priests all day, groomed by a dozen of the highest caste Maharajas, and fed from the hands of visiting Nawabs who had to supplicate themselves before me. A dozen and one Untouchable families would have to be burnt alive everytime a single feather of my being was damaged.
Hmmm. Had a bit too much curry recently I think....
I'd also like to be the plague carrying rat that's made a home in the children's hospital.
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.

Actually, we were thinking more of a peacock in Ancient Rome. They got eaten there.

True, but they (Classical compossers) sacrificed theme for structure. The creativity involved in the Romantic era is much greater, and was not so focused on maintaining the new relatives that is structure... I think Beehtoven's 9th is a good example, in the way he kept the same theme through each movement while altering the structure to reveal new "themes" where as someone like Mozart would change the theme to create juxtaposing structure between movements in order to generate the contrast.
Fair enough...but I don't think Beethoven's 9th is his best example. The 5th is the prime example of his thematic continuity. The 9th has the problem in that the final movement is not really symphonic material--the "Ode" theme is undevelopable, and unrelated to the thematic exposition in the previous movements. So in that "Sturm und drang" intro to the 4th movement, he quotes each of the previous movements in a rather cheap attempt to give it some relation to the previous movements. I'd rather he just have accepted the finale was a thing unto itself and nixed this quoting. It doesn't really add anything to the movement. Had he gone further and continued to manipulate those themes later in the movement, that would be even better--but he just drops them totally.
Monolith: RK rocks, check out some of his violin concertos, they are the cream of the crop.
Meh. If you want great violin concertos, you're best served by Beethoven, Elgar, Brahms and (especially) the Mendelssohn.
Right now I'm listening to "Sym No.6 - 1 : Adagio - Allegro con troppo" by Tchaikovsky, and I'm greatly enjoying it.
