I refer to some of my friends as ''Hey ladies'' to poke at them. So dude for a girl isn't so bad.

So the guy is trying to have the officer fired for calling him dude!? It's another pathetic incident of the rich and powerful thinking it's no big deal if they step on the underclasses...

This mayor should learn the Christian Virtue of Humility.

Apparently this guy has been getting himself into a lot of trouble recently. I googled his name to try to find his e-mail adress to tell him what I thought about him trying to get this officer fired, and it seems recently two things have been happening. One, the City's police has recently has recently sued Arvin and Juan Olivares for Breach of Contract. Two, his wife recently filed a restraining order against him.

              Interesting.

You forgot that I don't live in the city proper but one of the uptight vanilla villages.

And yes, hizzonah would get a medal.

They are. This dude's just crazy, though.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Alright, I called the city the phone number that I got from http://www.ss.ca.gov/executive/ca_ro...ies_towns1.pdf

                        His e-mail adress is: mayorcityofarvin@aol.com

If you think it is unjust the idea of a man losing his job and facing the harshness of unemployment because he happened to adress one of the rich and powerful as "dude", I encourage you to e-mail him. Please do not not be rude or refer to "him" as dude yourself, as that will likely hardern his resolve to persecute this man. Instead, be courteous, and ask him to reconsider.

                          Bull****.
In all seriousness, policemen must address all citizens as Sirs or Madams (according to the preffered mode). Anything else is below job obligations. Although getting a cop fired for that is too much he can be repremented for it.

paiktis: In the USA "dude" is not considered particularly insulting or disrespectful.

I recently sent the following e-mail:

                            Dear Mr. Mayor:

The recent incident in which you filed an official complaint when an officer called you "dude", in an attempt to get the officer fired, has recently made national news. In the news report that I read you said: "Please officer, don't call me dude.' I'm not a dude. I'm 41 years old, I'm a businessman, I'm a Christian and I consider myself a gentlemen". I am writing to you as a fellow concerned Christian. I am concerned about the quality of your witness. Jesus Christ humbled himself in the ultimate way by allowing himself to beaten, stripped, and executed on the cross in order to redeem our sin. Humility is a Christian virtue, do you believe Jesus would seek to have a man fired if somebody were to call him "dude"? It is not humble and it is not Christian behavior to be vengeful and seek to have a man get in serious trouble because someone did not adress your properly. I hope and pray that you will reconsider, and that you will withdraw your complaint.

                            Sincerely,
                            (my real name)

Ticketed for having 'illegally tinted windows'? Damn, talk about fashion police.

That's not the point Shi. He was a policeman, he was addressing a citizen, I know that at least in Greece it's in the job description of policemen to address citizens as Sirs or Madams. I think that something similar must exist in the US?

I agree that firing a cop for calling someone dude is going too far but he was obviously trying to do it for kicks or to offend while he was on duty, that's not acceptable. But, even, for whatever reason he did call him that, he was not proffessional. Again agreed about not firing him for that but he should be repremented.
