  • Geek culture and women

Aside from its obvious geekiness, the Internet is a huge boost for geekdom everywhere, allowing any community no matter how specialized to reach a critical mass by drawing members from the entire developed world.

That said, geekiness is still pretty subdued in real life. I suppose one of the biggest obstacles to growth of geekdom is its disproportionate gender ratio. What's to blame?

Depends on what you mean by "geek." If it just means "a technically inclined person," yes, there are lots of women geeks as well.

I can't speak personally for SF Cons, but have that on authority from multiple friends, of both sexes. SCA I can vouch for personally. Met my wife there . And she's cute. And a doctoral student.

Bah, there's plenty of geeks suck at tecknology, we read too much fantasy, spend ridiculous amounts of time on the internet and think seriously about the implications of alternative history points of divergence
