I just tried to get onto Groklaw. I got a message that they had been DDos by the slash dot crowd.

it seems obvious now that you've only heard one side of the sco story.
    slash dot == slashdot == /.
when slashdot links to something that doesn't have massive bandwidth or capacity, something called "slashdotting" happens (wraith explains it).

And who might these people be? Supporters of Microsoft?

no, it's a paralegal who is following this case. if you scroll up to some of the initial posts i and wraith made, you'll see we mention groklaw a few times.
they are on the side of linux, against sco.

to be honest, though, that's odd.

      are you trying www.groklaw.net ?

groklaw used to be slashdotted all the time, until ibiblio stepped in and created a mirror.

Not all that long ago, even 'Poly got Slashdotted, or at least it was feared that way.

--"The SCO site is now down, http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1105_2-5119434.html, because of a hacker attack. "

They've made this claim before. The odd part is that, in all but one of the cases, their upstream provider hasn't had any knowledge of such an attack.

            That's incredibly funny.

The story wasn't on the front page, though (only games.slashdot.org), so the effect wasn't that strong...

You know, everytime I see this thread's title, I think,

"What's happened to GP this time?"
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

haven't read very far into it, but i've already come to the conclusion that:
                    1. sco didn't send their best man forward
                    2. kevin mcbride definitely needs public oratory lessons.

I wonder why Boies didn't go first...

                          On another front:

THE ROYAL BANK OF Canada made changes to its connection with SCO yesterday, according to a report in the Globe and Mail.

The RBC invested $50 million into SCO two months ago, the paper said, but doesn't want to be connected to a sale that would involve its lawyers receiving a cut of 20%.

The bank issued a filing giving the RBC and investment company Baystar Capital Partners the power of veto over anything SCO might do which would cause Boies, Schiller & Flexner to claim its 20% cut.

turns out that really was a ddos attack.

however, it was also a syn attack. which means that sco's sysadmins are enormously incompetent because that vulnerability has been known for ages, and has been patched on every single operating system in use.

                              A SYN Flood?

The strange thing is the graph doesn't look like any DoS attacks at all. The server simply died without any changes in response time, etc.
