  • Pop-up Stopper

I have a cable modem and this morning I glance over at my computer and see the 79 ads!, and I logged off before going to bed!

Anyone know of a good, free, blocker of some sort? This isn't to block the pop-ups from this site, I just don't need to spend the first 5 minutes of the day freeing myself from spam... (I actually just used task manager, but my wife wouldn't know about that)...

    Thank You
    Monkey!!!

Mozilla is the not-for-profit behind the lightning fast Firefox browser. We put people over profit to give everyone more power online.

How could they pop up if you logged off?

The google taskbar does a pretty good job of blocking popups.

Opera blocks, but I don't think/didn't know Google toolbar did/does.

Google toolbar is good - it provides some other decent functionality, after all.

And yes, I have it set to allow anything from apolyton.net.

THanks for all the good suggestions.

The pop-ups come regardless of what browser I am using, and even if I don't have a browser open, which is making it hard to play CIVIII

I am almost always connected for Messenger type things and have never had such a flood of pop-ups... This is starting to make me sick..

You might want to run a spyware cleaner like ad-aware on your system, as that may the root of your problem.

the blocking is not enabled by default in opera or mozilla.

you'll have to go to preferences for that.

if you're still getting popups, download spybot from security.kolla.de or that program from lavasoft. could be one of those damned spyware things.

I was getting about 3 or 4 pop-ups every 5-minutes while idle... I downloaded adaware, as Snotty suggested, ran the scan and haven't had one yet Thanks.

I also downloaded Mozilla, and will keep spybot in mind if the problem arises again....

And Theben, I don't think I got it from surfing porn (not that there's anything worng with that) as all the adds were for shopping stuff... I think my wife picked up something while she was doing her Christmas shopping.
