Droids have no emotions. They mimic them. Droids do not think, as illustrated in this bit of dialogue from the diner scene in “Attack of the Clones” where Obi Wan is asking his old buddy about the assassin's dart.

DEXTER JETTSTER: It's these funny little cuts on the side give it away... Those analysis droids you've got over there only focus on symbols, you know. I should think you Jedi would have more respect for the difference between knowledge and wisdom.

OBI-WAN: Well, if droids could think, there wouldn't be any of us here, would there?

Have you ever noticed that in most movies involving ancient Romans at least some of the imperials are usually British? I think it has to do with the accent. There is a distinct world recognized upper class accent in Britain that simply reeks of aristocracy, snobbery, etc. Hence when you want to have an actor portray something imperial, be it ancient Rome or a galaxy long ago and far away, you reach for a classy Brit. You would not however, reach for Tom Jones, Engelbert Humperdink, or any other non-upper class Brit.

I'm sure there are ways of riding a senent computer of "unproductive" ideas, debugging, or runnning a genetic algorythm.

The was a funny TV/book series "Red Dwarf" where computers were cured of this desire by being programmed to believe in "Silicon Heaven."

Have any of the droids ever asked for emancipation? Maybe they just don't want it!

I like that article. It delves into some of the messages of Star Wars.

And I like the writer of the article because he likes Empire Strickes Back. The best of the films. . I agree.

That article also explains why Han Solo is the best character in the series, and why The new star wars movies is hurting without him. Han Solo is just a regular hero, not some hero born of divine power.

Speaking of messages, what was the overall message in the latest movie. I think I missed what they finally concluded.

Remember when Anakind and Princess whatever-her-name-was (Natalie Portman) were discussing the quabbles in the senate. And Annakin said something along the lines of having one person rise to power to rise above the petty squabbles. Or something like that. I just remembered Annakin not liking the endless arguing in the Senate.

I may have missed what finally became of that whole conversation. Or did the movie not conclude the thoughts of that scene? That was the only decent scene in the whole movie .

Surely the droids deserve a better faith than that Jar Jar Bings or whatever his name was. But no, really. This is really of the scale of the nerdometer.

What's all the fuss about? Just because you never get to see the droids being paid doesn't make them slaves.
And it'd be a pretty rubbish film if we had to cut into the light sabre duels to show culturally important footage of Hans Solo calculating his National Insurance payments.

That would be a Galactic Insurance payment, right?

That article is terrible. Not only does he talk about things in Star Wars that just aren't there, but he OBVIOUSLY doesn't get Campbell... AT ALL.

Yes, pathetic wanna-be author Brin and his single struggling book series doesn't get Campbell.
You, on the other hand, with your multiple successful book series, megabuck movie rights, actress trophy wife, earned literary degrees, and honorary literary chairs, demonstrate the proper understanding of Campbell's editorial hand.

Oh, you haven't written books or done a dissertation on sf literature? I must have confused you with someone else.

I didn't see Brin commenting on things in Star Wars "that just aren't there." What are you talking about? In fact, I agree with at least 90% of what he wrote. Made many similar comments about SW myself over the years. Maybe you don't "get" it… "AT ALL."

Obviously a drooling Star Wars mouth-breather.

Yeah, I can see the original Star Wars, with Jabba running the insurance sales/protection racket, and the Jedi as civil rights wonks fighting for emancipation of AI.
Instead of blowing up the Death Star, they rush en masse and hold a sit-in to tie up the Grand Moff's offices until the evil administrators get so aggravated they resign and flee to some tropical planetoid protected from galactic extradition.
