Depends what you're looking for; Moscow and St P are big enough that you can immerse yourself in the language by avoiding foreigners; but at the same time have the option of a sanity break when things get too Russian - the options available in smaller Russain cities even now are limited and a year is a long time - unless you want to do a Chekov and only dream of going to Moscow
Wherever you go, try to travel within Russia or the CIS - natives don't and the stories you'll get from Norilsk', Nizhy Tagil, Ashgabat or Dushanbe will take some beating"An Outside Context Problem was the sort of thing most civilisations encountered just once, and which they tended to encounter rather in the same way a sentence encountered a full stop" - Excession

Definitely. I really enjoyed going to Moscow but I just think, for me at least, it's more of a place to visit rather than live in.
Already got pleanty of plans to travel (i.e. Trans-Mongolian railway, Turkestan-Siberian railway, the Baltic States, Minsk etc.)...will just have to hope that I get pleanty of free time
