IMHO, learning about keeping out of hate groups is much more sound and useful for juveniles than learning to shoot the evil foes of uncle Sam, whoever they may be each time. Even if the former comes in more shocking scenes than the latter.

I think watching "American History X" at too young an age may scar some kids. It's incredibly powerful and depressing (in the end).

In more "primitive" societies children often see adults having sex. Does that negatively impact them? I don't think so... Does Rambo? I don't think so... Of course, there will always be individuals playing with a short deck who can't deal with life and try to take others with them and God only knows what their trigger will be if Rambo and porn aren't around, but when we design society around the loose cannons, we end up treating everyone like loose cannons and that ain't freedom.

Ashcroft is now going after "violent" porn, you know, simulated rape scenes, etc., based on the ridiculous notion that seeing a rape will induce non-rapists to commit rape. The "proof" for this assertion? Rapists are often found to possess simulated rape scenes. Gee, did possessing this material create a rapist or do rapists seek out this material because they...are...rapists! Yeah, Rambo made me a murderer.

Isn't it ironic how some conservatives will ridicule liberals for promoting the "victimization" of America by "defending" criminals by claiming "society" made them while using that same argument when it comes to porn?

The liberal:

poverty made me a criminal

The conservative:

porn made me a criminal

I know people who grew up with thier bedroom right next to thier parents, who were very active in the dirty, and they grew up to be pretty fooked in the head.

besides that first few times I saw sex in movies (porn or otherwise) I thought it was very disturbing and violent, unless it was slow and sweet.

edit: granted when it was slow and sweet I had no clue what the heck was happening.

Porn does not show you what's good, healthy, happy sex. The purpose of porn is to get the viewer all hot and excited. The portait of women is overwhelmingly depraved.

The essence of porn movies is showing sex. The essence of Rambo (and the like) movies is showing violence.

People say here that 'porn does not show you what's good, healthy and happy sex'. I agree. Since I'm not in the porn industry, I don't know if women in porn industry are abused, repressed and defamed.

I say that violence does not show anything good. It's quite sickening.

This is the direct cause of the double standards originating from the two religions - christianity and islam. Both think of violence as a virtue and sex as a shameful thing - atleast christianity does (I'm not so sure about islam).

I choose porn over rambo - anytime.

I don't think women in porn industry are repressed, at least not in the respectable porn industry (in the underground, it must be wildly different).
But our point of criticizing porn doesn't come from what happens behind the scenes, but on what happen onstage. Whatever the true feelings of the actors really are, porn shows you mindless and loveless sex. It goes very quickly and the whole ordeal can look quite violent (in the meaning people move very fast, women sream strangely, etc.)
