  • Test my FTP server!

I'm setting up a personal FTP server to use for a file transfer. Could someone here see if it runs correctly?

    edit: temporarily removed

Log in as HARDMAN, password gaytwat

See if you can access the text file I've made available.

Hey, that's an internal IP, are you behind a router? If so, you'd need to use your public IP and forward traffic to the FTP port to that IP.

A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.

              Oh.

How do I do that then? Jesus I'm crap at this.

Apparently my public IP is 212.32.178.88 if that's any help.

Well, what kind of router do you have?

It still doesn't seem to be working. What port should we be trying to connect to?

Okay, **** this, I can't find my router password. I'll have to think of some other solution.

Go to "Run" on the start menu and enter "winipcfg". This, if all is working fine, should tell you what your public ip address is.

Don't forget that FTP is an "evil" protocol which was created in complete ignorance of NAT (mostly because at the time FTP was created, the people who managed the Internet 1. didn't suffer from an address shortage and 2. would have beaten up anyone who would suggest such inane schemes anyway). You'll have to forward both 20/tcp and 21/tcp if you want other people who are behind NAT/other kind of firewall to be able to move any files around...
