    Leaving forever.

    I'm going to be in Monterey, CA for the next three weeks doing predeployment training with the US Army Reserve so here's my leaving forever thread. I'm supposed to deploy for 18 months following New Years but they still haven't told me where I'm going. The powers that be did say "it isn't to where you think" so there's hope that I won't be going to Iraq. Of course even if I don't go to Iraq that still leaves Afghanistan, the former Yugoslavia, Kuwait, or one of the former Soviet republics in either central Asia or the Caucuses.

    I’ll be back at the end of Nov and I’ll be hanging out here through December. I’m also taking a trip to Turkey & Greece during the second week in December so I might be able to meet up with some of you if I have a lay over in western Europe. I’m going to be flying on Luftansa so I’ll probably be have some down time in Germany. Have fun while I’m gone.

    Sure you are.

        Che: Of course I'm not leaving forever. I'm simply borrowing a tradition from counterglow.com where everyone who leaves for more then a few days posts a "I'm leaving forever" thread.

                  I'm just going to be spending most of November in northern California so I'll be back here at the beginning of December. I won't be shipping out until January but at least they'll soon be telling me where I'm going to be for the next 1.5 years.

                        Beware the tap water in Europe- it's tainted with fluoride and socialism.

                        Best of luck, enjoy yourself as much as possible under the circumstances, and don't run into any international incidents.

                          remember, always carry another pair of socks.

                          and don't forget your towel, because if you do, you run the risk of not being considered a hoopy frood, and so people won't sass you.
