Seriously - I lived through the Thatcher and Major Governments, and I would be DELIGHTED if the Tory rats never were elected to power ever again. If the price for that is endless Blair, then so be it. Its a small price to pay. Of course, Lib Dems will come second in the next election, and as the remains of the old "working class" (the ones that used to work, when there used to be factories and so on) fade off and die on the NHS, then the Lib Dems will start to challenge for government within 20-25 years. Untill then I expect endless Labour government, untill people can't take it anymore.

yes, but there is a slight difference between 'labour will never win in chelsea' and 'the lib dems will never win in the north of the england' and i certainly agree that the tory front runners are mostly rubbish, the best of a bad lot seems to be ken clarke, but he won't get in because the party hates him, oliver letwin won't get in because the public hates him, michael portilo might just sneak in as a unity candidate, everybody hates him.

dan, the thing is that blair hasn't done anything to keep the opposition weak and divided, they have done this all themselves. blair has given them a lot of ammunition recently but the tories are too busy fighting amoung themselves to do anything about it.

                    More carefully TARGETTED taxes actually.
And modest tax rises are a part of the solution to the ills of Britain.

We are the lowest tax economy in Europe, we can a afford a bit more tax without damaging the economy. And DONT say that we're the best performing economy in the EU because we've got the lowest tax. Thats bull****

Yeah, it's much better under the conservatives when they raise taxes loads then quickly lower them before an election before raising them in the next budget.

it's just like labour really, except they skip the reduction part.

the reasons for us being better than europe are many, but our lower taxes and the fact we haven't joined the euro are a very big part of it.

Absolutly nothing to do with Germany's deep economic problems caused by reunification which have their roots well before the introduction of the Euro then?

And absolutely nothing to do with France's ridiculous obsession with propping up its failing industries with subsidies?

Strongest economy in Europe? But does the general populace feel the benefit of it?
