Sorry I'm gonna have to troll here. Trance/Rave/Jungle is the single worst music to have ever been created. I'll take showtunes and elevator music over this stuff.
I used to think that too.

      Here's some free trance music:

This guy played bass in my band twice. Once when he was 14 and once when he was 33. None of the times worked out very well. Don't ask me why. Anyway, he's a great musician. Somehow, he managed to top the MP3 World Chart for a couple of weeks in 1999 and got a check of 10.000$ right down his mailbox. He is now a gaming software developer at an office in Dubai, UAE. I see his wrecked Porsche every day when I drive to work, as it is parked in a public property until he has solved the conflict with the local officials who accidentaly or deliberately smashed it while towing it away from an illegal parking.

10.000$ in the mail? That's nice
        I guess I'll download it.

BB, I just read your post, yes you are right. But I'll test the suggestions nevertheless.

Serbs (and/or?) Russians live with obscurity and insecurity all their lives. That's why they choose garbage in their tastes.

Tiesto is a good choice for trance, the best you can get out there today for the pure, melodic, and rather fast (sincere) stuff. Paul Oakenfold has gotten out of a rut as of late and yet again is a good pick for trance; don't know if he's released any cds for 2003 under such a change - though.

Rave? I don't know what genre that is, but would probably (of late) fall under bland techno, electro, or UK hard house. The first and the former are wastes of time and not too well known by myself... but for electro try out "Cut & Paste" or "Radioactive Man"

Electro moves into jungle by similarity, admittedly I don't know any jungle faces out there other than Aphrodite and maybe Diesel Boy (those are the bigger ones)

So aside from that - here's some GOOD techno in case it does fit your "rave" category. Carl Cox always puts out some rather easy listening techno, and is one of the bigger names on the top 100 djs list (#5). Jeff Mills is the old master at the genre, a little passe at this point but always good for fast, dark, driving beats. Canada's Max Graham is my absolute favourite for techno - when he actually plays it. On maxgraham.com you can download his New Years Eve 2002/3 set from Montreal which showcases quality techno that moves into wicked trance all in 75 minutes (it's in the MEDIA section)

Yet for getting a single cd as you've described... The mix you're asking for will surely come in form of obscurity or hyper commerical. Single mix cds will not slide effortlessly through the requested genres and you're basically looking at picking up the 43rd cd purchased of some loser named "dj egg" etc., or buying a worthless pro-tools engineered RAVE-A-THON TRANCE NRG MIX 2004 type compilation.

Best of luck for now! Are you able to download anything?

            You bet

I just wanted one CD as a more easy and complete starting point but I never had anything against downloading...

              Jeff Mills Excellent choice..
Then the other kind of techno, which is more monotonic but nice beats and strong, but not too fast or 'loud' could be Adam Bayer, Chris Liebing and those guys, maybe Marco Carola. But that's if you want techno.

If you want some legendary stuff, get Kraftwerk, Derrick May, Juan Atkins ... but that's out of the range you mentioned, maybe not your cup of tea.

Try gettign Jean Jaques Perry's Cosmic Bird.

You really can't go wrong with some Oakenfold albums, some are pure magic, and some can only be tolerated once a day...

Sasha, Digweed. real mainstream trance stuff.

Tried some Jeff Mills; too "light" for my taste. Will keep testing. Thanks again for all the suggestions.

Sasha and Diggers basically pioneered more tolerable mainstream trance (and championed breaks YEARS before the recent explosion), but they've for the most part moved on to what we call "progressive"

Most progressive usually has an existing trancey or housey edge, in a more driving state. Check out Sasha & Digweed Delta Heavy 2002 @ Miami and you'll come to understand what I mean (it's brilliant)

Pekka, I'm huge into techno right now but don't know too many sources. What are some of the more driving, hard and relentless djs? (pseudo euphoric accepted, as well)

                        I prefer:
House, Progressive House, techno, rave, trance, sometimes Hard House/Nu NGR, Gabber, Hardcore and
PSY, anything but cheese exept electro. Opl Bastard are nice though

                            For techno:

Carl Cox, Jeff Mills, and Max Graham. The first two are a little too light, though

                            All else...

Sasha, Digweed, Cass, Steve Lawler, James Holden, James Zabiela, Tiesto, Oakenfold, Paul Van Dyk. The bigger names usually showcased on Essential Mixes

Now if we can get him onto Electro maybe we can get him onto Miami freestyle... and if we can get him onto freestyle maybe we can get him onto Bass... and if we can get him onto Bass we might be able to get him onto Ghetto-Tech, Dirty South, Crunk, Brazilian Funk and all the other urban genres Bass has influenced...
