  • Wow, the death of an Amsterdam burglar

NOS.nl - Nieuws, Sport en Evenementen op Radio, TV en Internet

    Translation:

Amsterdam: Residents of a house on the Nieuwe Nieuwstraat in Amsterdam found a body between two walls. The neighbours asked them to look into the space between two houses because they heard a rumble six days before. The occupants who could check the space were on holliday during the time.

Six days ago the police came to check because someone was heard on the roof. It was then suggested that a burglar could have fallen into the 40 cm wide space.

The man fell from the 3rd [2nd for Americans] floor into the space. Witnesses say they heard moaning. A building contractor has partially demolished the wall to get access.

On the radio they said the man is dead.

    And Hueij says woah...
Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin
    Once again...

Don't try to burgle a house I wonder why the guy didn't just yell out for help and take his medicine cuz it sounds like the guy just stayed there and died with little or no effort to draw attention to his plight.

Yeah, Berz, if you were the owner of that house, you'd probably shoot him .

Nah, I'd help him. I don't believe in using too much force to counter a threat, I'm just more lenient towards those who over-estimate the amount of force necessary when they have a legitimate fear for their life. If the owner did shoot him, I'd convict the owner of murder.

I guess the translation doesn't work in English. But let me try...

Amsterdam is an old city and there is a "New Street" since the beginning of time. Now let's suppose there is another street that is going to be called "New Street" but to avoid confusion they call it the "Newer New Street".

                  Clear now?

Not me. I'd likely laugh for a few minutes before calling the cops to get him out.

There is no mention, nor indication in the article the stiff was a burgler.

Still a rather unpleasant way to die

                          It's a pretty good bet.

Some aquaintences of mine were partying naked on a roof of an apartment. They got terrible drunk and two of them (man and woman) fell into the space between buildings and got wedged in. The fire department had to come and pull them out. I lost any respect I had for him as he was telling me the story.
