There used to be a guy in San Diego with a sign that instead of the usual "will work for food" said "why lie? I need a drink!"

He probably got even more money than the will work for food ones.

Althrough high school I worked two Sunday mornings per month at a homeless relief mission in San Diego's East Villiage (where most of the homeless reside). I found virtually all of the homeless people either had mental health issues or some sort of substence abuse problems. That's just my observation.

I remember a few weeks ago when I went to go out to lunch to eat with my mom. This homeless woman came into the place and started to ask people at the tables for money. My mom gave here a dollar and they we watch as she crossed the street and got booze.

yes the sad fact is many homeless have mental illness and not are all drunks.

But I believe it was in the 60's they said it was wrong to put these people in mental hospitals against their will.

So now they are all booted onto the street.

I'm not sure what is right, but seeing them all on the street can't be right.

Yes I think the homeless problem in the US is mainly due to the fact that many of them have mental illness. Some even like to be homeless, but I am not sure how many feel that way. There are a few homeless people that want to work and just found themselves in hard times and ended up on the streets, but most of it is the result of mental illness. The sad thing is that most of them could be treated and lead normal lifes.

I believe these guys are out there surviving. You can fault a guy for that if you will, but its fairly stupid to do so.

He asked for food and got a can of tuna. You know how much mercury is in that? Nuf said.
