  • Frozen Explorer

For the last... very long time... I have had this problem:

When I close a window (Just a random window, nothing special), explorer freezes, and it looks like this:

I've never seen this happen, when I close the last window in the line, it's always happening with a window in the middle.

I can't use explorer for anything, but I can use other apps though...

Has anyone else experienced this problem before, and knows how to fix it?

...and don't come with the "Just use something else" post...
This space is empty... or is it?

After about 20 seconds it unfreezes again, like nothing happened...

    I'm using WinXP btw...

When looking at the task manager, it doesn't seem like it takes any CPU power or anything...

It's been happening to me too. Not always though.

        It's contagious through ICQ!

Seriously, have you disabled any services in services.msc? I disabled some services once and my Explorer went all weird =\

When I saw a thread with the title "Frozen Explorer", and "Provost Harrison" in the last post by column, I just knew there would be something along the lines of "Captain Oates" or "George Mallory" as the last response.

When I saw this thread's title I thought they found some 200 year old frozen dead guy in Canada.

Block heaters would help your problem, just plug in your Explorer when it gets cold out.

We don't have that problem here in California. I hear engine block warmers are expensive to buy.
