OK, I've done some research. Most of the small stuff is expensive, though. Here's a barebones mini-itx motherboard (17 cm x 17 cm) for $120 (integrated VIA @ 1 GHz)...

Then there's the new VIA nano-itx motherboard (12 cm x 12 cm) for an unknown price (integrated VIA @ 1 GHz)...

Then there are 3.5" Single Board Computers. Here's a Kontron motherboard (10 cm x 15 cm) for an unknown price (integrated Pentium M @ 1.1 GHz or 1.6 GHz)...

Cases are pretty hard to find for these motherboards.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

      Here's a mini-itx set-up, including 800 MHz VIA, 256 MB SDRAM, CD-ROM and 20 GB hard drive that would cost about $500.

      Comes in at 7" x 2" x 10". Not bad.

Can you double the RAM? mySQL is real dog if it doesn't have plenty of RAM.
