OK, I've done some research. Most of the small stuff is expensive, though. Here's a barebones mini-itx motherboard (17 cm x 17 cm) for $120 (integrated VIA @ 1 GHz)...
Then there's the new VIA nano-itx motherboard (12 cm x 12 cm) for an unknown price (integrated VIA @ 1 GHz)...
Then there are 3.5" Single Board Computers. Here's a Kontron motherboard (10 cm x 15 cm) for an unknown price (integrated Pentium M @ 1.1 GHz or 1.6 GHz)...
Cases are pretty hard to find for these motherboards.
