  • Marriage is descriminatory, single people should get its benifits!

I COMPLETLEY and TOTALY support gay marriages-gays are fine, I have absolutely no problem with them-this ISNT an attack on homosexual's, nor is it "I'm not a racist but" post.

Arent marriage benifits by the goverment preferential treatment? Why should two people get special benifits and treatment just because they are married? Single people should get marriage benifits too, or abolish them completely!

Society has an interest in promoting marriage. It does not have an interest in promoting singleness.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

If anything, single people have a higher economic burden and deserve all the help they can get.

There is no point in promoting marriage if there are no kids as a result.

to get a marriage benefit, you have to be married.

being single means you're not married. why would a single person get a marriage benefit?

They have the same legal status. At least that's the way around here.

Because single heterosexuals have the freedom to enter a legally sanctioned marriage, they will always have access to the privileges that go with marriage.

So single, heterosexual people really are not being discriminated against -- they choose whether they want to marry or not.

But it would be interesting to learn more about the historical developments that led to legally sanctioned privileges of marriage in Western societies.

Any Apolytoner historian who is knowledgeable in this particular area?

Single gay people could marry someone as well just to exploit the tax perks. Get a gay couple and a lesbian couple together and do a double wedding.

Since the male/female sex act is the only one that produces children, the state has an interest in seeing that new children are well cared for. Marriage is a perk to entice parents to stick around.
