Vassell and Rooney up front would be interesting. I think I've seen 2 England matches with Beattie in and I wasn't impressed either time. He gave away too much and didn't really create anything. Owen may be tried ans tested, but he's also a good striker. He scores a lot and he scores consistantly. He's saved England enough times to be an automatic choice IMHO.

7 goals in 8 games for Liverpool already this season, 5 goals in the last 7 internationals. Much higher ratio than his average which is about 1/2 per international.Jon Miller: MikeH speaks the truth

And why would you play Smith, Rooney AND Beattie (not to mention Scholes pushing on) when we only needed a draw to qualify? Very tactically niave as Big Ron might say.
Heskey did a cracking job on Saturday (admitidly its about time)

I loved it when only 20 min. after the game, the punters were saying:
"Ooh and see England going all the way in Portugal"
Yeah right
I'm not against England (I'll probably end up supoting them during the finals), but face it, you're just not good enough IMO.
Besides you're track record isn't all that great either, is it now.Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God? - Epicurus

I agree. The people who say we stand a realistic chance of winning the whole tournament are crazy. Frankly, we'd do well to get out of our group considering how strong the competition is. It's possible we'll win, anything's possible - Denmark won in '92 after all - but it isn't likely. If I'm posting here then Counterglow must be down.
