E-5 promotable. They actually offered me E-6 three years ago if I reenlisted but I said no way Jose and opted for the IRR instead. In retrospect I sould have just taken it.

They offered my Persian Farsie but I didn't want to spend 15 month's learning Iranian. I wanted to hold out for Spanish, Korean, German, French, or some other language that might possibly be of some use to me.

I do speak some Spainish, but, as Gepap and the other Spanish speakers here can testify it isn't very good.

        Some senior Sergeant, right?

Do you people get promoted over time spent in the army, or are there other things?

Time spent plus other things. You can get points for awards, doing well on the Physical testing, getting good annual reviews, continuing your education, etc.

Given your background I would have thought Langley would have been a career choice after you left active duty.

I've been thinking a bit and I need to expand the list of likely places they might send me. I know the Army needs Psyops in Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq. I also know lots of people are being sent to Uzbekistan and Djoubuti while a few people are being sent to the Phillipines.

Since they told me it isn't Iraq or Afghanistan the most likely places are either Bosnia or Kosovo which wouldn't be to bad. Still, I've already been to Kosovo so I'd prefer some where new.

But then you have to live in Virginia.

                Still, a good idea.

                  No!

The more obscure the language you speak is, the better your chance of getting a job afterwards will be. Everyone learns French, German, Spanish at school and so you will just be one of many millions who can speak that, but should prospective employers need a person with your skills and an ability to speak an "unusual" language then it's a shoo-in. Do you know anyone who speaks Farsi? Who does? It's a much better opportunity, even if it will be more difficult.

Please note that the questions in this post are rhetorical, for effect, and you will prove yourself to be an utter halfwit were you to respond to either of them.

Depends on the job. After an initial training period, it is quite possible you would spend most of your life outside of VA. I know of a fellow who spend about 20 years as a guest of Fidel Castro in nice tropical Cuba.

Sorry for the late reply - the thread got buried.

Yes, I spent over 5 years working for the 3SFG(A) at Fort Bragg (1995-2001).

However, the SF guys wear the green beret not black (hense the song "The Green Berets")

Actually, I really enjoyed working for the Special Forces - a lot of interesting things always going on.

Sorry about your problem Oerdin. But then again, it is of your own making.

                        Good Luck.
