I considered changing to folding@home, but since the protein people have much more money to buy their own computing power (compared to SETI), I stay with SETI@home for the time being.

Damn you! I decided for Folding, and now i'm considering switching back to Seti.

Ok, the folding thingie looks prettier with all those cool molecules, but, but.... damn it!

SETI has a more detailed progress report, and a Poly team. Klingons, here I come!

            Yes, you are...for the moment.

Gives me someone else to shoot for since Combat Ingrid blew past me about 6 months ago, and I can't compete with his 9hr 36min return rate.

Japher, go to this site (The SETI@Home home page):

All of your questions should be answered. If you still have questions, well, you can always ask here on Apolyton.

I was doing 8hrs/unit at some point, then my computer had a fit and my average went all to Hell, jumping to 16hrs. My new computer innards are slowly bring that back down to 8-ish hours/unit again. But it won't be for another month or so before I can continue SETI@Home...waiting on the other program to finish.

                Sigh...

I went with folding@home. Is there an Apolyton group for that?
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

How much is the traffic n these things?
My broadband connection is capped and I really don't to exceed the maximum (and get thrown to something like 14.4K for several days )

With SETI@Home, it communicates only at the beginning/end of a workunit: send a completed unit (or multiple units, see next sentence...) and receive a new one. You can set it up so that the program connects to their servers automatically OR prompt you to connect. Workunits are 360kb in size when received by my computer.

I wonder how fast my Athlon 64 3200+ with 1GB of DDR400 would work through it.

Please tell me how it goes, I'm trying to build a comparable system near the end of this month. Right now my laptop can do just under 5 hours if I run nothing else.
