So it is good not to have quarrels? Since it is inevitable to have conflicts, I'd thought quarrels are like safety valves.

No quarrels means either no involvement or one member allways ending up drawing the short end of any deal, leaving a lot of frustration.

yes, or to be more precise, testing times are good for relationships. If they're for good, they'll last, if they'll collapse, did you really want it in the first place?
This is nice in theory, of course. Reality is quite different.
It's all about how they're fought, how they're resolved, and what they're about. In general, when they aren't screaming affairs in which truly hurtful things are said, there is satisfactory resolution, and they aren't about nitpicky details, they can really strengthen a relationship. Otherwise, I think they serve as a demonstration of why that couple shouldn't be together.
