    I'm not sure all these fears of a massive population explosion everywhere would be entirely justified. The death rate due to violence would still be pretty high. The main reason it doesn't seem so high now is that so many other things can kill us first. Probably the overall death rate would drop to about a third of what it is presently and not much more than that. If *nothing* was done to control population growth *and* nobody died to violence at all you would still find that population growth in countries like Germany which currently have a gradual population decline would probably still be a small fraction of overall world population growth even if the "immortality" was confined only to such wealthy nations.

    For example compare germany's birth rate to Albania. Even if germany's death rate was actually zero it would still grow more slowly than albania currently does.

    Albania:

    18.2 births/1,000 population (2003 est.)

    6.48 deaths/1,000 population (2003 est.)

    Germany:

    8.6 births/1,000 population (2003 est.)

    10.34 deaths/1,000 population (2003 est.)
